One of the few silver linings of the coronavirus pandemic is that newsrooms have had to develop more logical solutions for working because of the sheer necessity to survive the crisis. But we are not out of the woods yet.

As if that burden was not heavy enough, many long-standing, pre-pandemic issues have not gone away: digital transformation, newsroom diversity and management of Gen Y and Z journalists.

In this week’s podcast, we speak to Lucy Kueng, senior research associate for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, and an expert on newsroom strategy, innovation and leadership. This month, she published a new book, ‘Hearts and Minds: Harnessing Leadership, Culture, and Talent to Really go Digital’., based on conversations with more than 100 newsroom leaders.

The book reveals what the best CEOs, heads of departments and other middle managers are doing to galvanise their teams during this troubling period. She stresses the importance of having charged batteries for the even greater challenges which lie ahead, and helps you plot how to deal with those issues.
