Welcome latest newsrewired sponsors Storyful
As a growing number of pictures and videos are posted online from members of the public, eyewitness media is becoming an important part of the newsgathering operations in many newsrooms. But as a still emerging newsgathering technique in many organisations, sourcing, verifying and licensing eyewitness media can be a tricky operation.
We’re pleased to announce social media newswire Storyful will be sponsoring our next newsrewired digital journalism conference, which takes place on 20 July in London.
Founded in 2010 and based in Dublin, Ireland, Storyful comprises a team of technologists and journalists across Asia, Europe and the United States who discover, verify, acquire and distribute timely and relevant video and user-generated content to newsrooms, advertisers and brands.
Storyful journalist Eoghan Sweeney will be joining our closing panel, “Best practices for working with eyewitness media on social networks”, alongside Rachel Rodriguez, social media producer, CNN International, George Sargent, social media producer, Reuters, and Hazel Baker, digital news editor, Sky News.
Announcing Content Insights as the latest newsrewired sponsor
With just under two weeks to go until our next newsrewired digital journalism conference, the Journalism.co.uk team is happy to announce Content Insights will be joining us as an event sponsor on the day.
Content Insights is developing a web analytics service to evaluate stories published online and help journalists and editors make sense of the large amount of data coming from a multitude of source.
David Brauchli, senior vice president of communications, will join our analytics panel to discuss how to measure success in the newsroom alongside Elinor Shields, head of audience engagement, BBC News, and Rob Hammond, head of SEO, Trinity Mirror.
Going live in 3, 2, 1: Facebook to give livestreaming workshop at newsrewired
Livestreaming on social networks has been growing in popularity since Periscope launched last year, and with Facebook’s introduction of live video streaming, publishers can now reach new and existing audiences on the platform through this new format. Live interactions with viewers through comments and the raw, unedited style livestreaming from a smartphone can bring to videos make this format an interesting proposition for media organisations – an opportunity, but a potentially difficult one to put into practice. Not to mention that Facebook is keen on getting more live video on the platform, giving it prominence in the news feed.
So how do you get people to stop scrolling and watch your Facebook Lives? And when you do get them to start watching, how do you get them to stay?
Journalism.co.uk is pleased to announce Karla Geci, strategic partnerships, Facebook EMEA, will share key insights and advice about how journalists can use Facebook Live to produce engaging live streams and reach a wider audience, in a practical workshop at newsrewired on 20 July.
Ousama Itani to give AJ+ spotlight talk at July’s newsrewired
In a digital media landscape where publishers are increasingly leaning towards native storytelling on platforms such as Facebook or Snapchat, some organisations were exclusively set up with this strategy in mind. Among them is AJ+, Al Jazeera’s news channel for millennials, whose approach to social video and success have inspired many.
At newsrewired on 20 July, delegates will hear about what makes AJ+ successful but also about the challenges posed by its distributed news strategy and future changes of direction. Dr. Yaser Bishr, global executive director of strategy and development, Al Jazeera, was initially scheduled to give the talk, but unfortunately his schedule is keeping him in the United States at the time and he can no longer join us.
We are happy to announce Ousama Itani, senior officer, strategy and development division, Al Jazeera, will be giving the talk instead.
